Trump Invites Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Members to White House

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Gatherings across the state have occurred in their memory.

White House Call

The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Attendees gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that instructors hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”

Service arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Measures and Government Revisions

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The event led the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she also intended to meet with his relatives.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
