Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the new Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
- The highly anticipated film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
