Fury Explodes as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Rebuke

Personalities from across the partisan divide and the Hollywood world are uniting to condemn Donald Trump for his comments in the wake of the shocking deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Los Angeles residence, Trump took to his platform to describe the deceased director as "tortured and struggling". In a post, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the hostility he provoked others through his massive, relentless, and incurable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in connection with the case. Reports indicate his bail was set at a significant sum.

A Wave of Condemnation from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was immediate and scathing.

“What a vile and despicable statement,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, also condemned the remarks. She pointed to previous comments from Trump about political violence, demanding, "Do you have no decency? Is it possible to get any lower?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just lost it. Now implying the Reiners caused their own demise because they opposed him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from His Own Political Ranks

A number of Republican lawmakers also voiced dismay.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the event was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". Greene also alluded to challenges with addiction and mental health some families face.

Another Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disgraceful" given the nature of the deaths. He publicly challenged members in his political party to defend the comments.

The Director's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. During a past interview, he argued Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the dangers of authoritarian rule should Trump be reelected to power.

"There is authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States fall, there’s a danger that democratic systems crumble around the world."

Despite his pointed criticisms, Reiner had previously shown "complete revulsion" and denounced political violence unequivocally following the shooting of a different political figure.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously recounted the anecdote of the session, noting Trump's request for "a specific hair product" as posing on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
