Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport After Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the airport.

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
